A line scan camera doesn’t capture a full frame like an area scan camera does. It captures a single line of pixels, over and over, as the material or part moves past it — usually triggered by an encoder so each line lines up exactly with the material’s actual motion, regardless of speed changes.
Those lines are stitched together into a continuous 2D image with no practical length limit, which is what makes line scan the right choice for webs, rolls, films, and printed surfaces that pass a fixed inspection point rather than sitting still for a snapshot.
