The camera technologies we deploy — selected according to inspection complexity, production speed, accuracy requirement, environmental conditions, and automation needs, not a one-size-fits-all default.
For imaging specifically, that means the camera technology is chosen first, before a specific model — because it sets limits nothing downstream can fix. An area scan camera can’t do what a line scan camera does for a moving web, and a smart camera can’t do what a multi-camera system does across several angles of a complex assembly. Getting this choice right is the foundation the lens, lighting, and controller all build on.
How many features, angles, or defect types a single cycle needs to cover.
Line rate and part flow — continuous web vs. static or indexed parts.
Resolution and pixel size needed to resolve the smallest relevant feature.
Heat, vibration, dust, or wash-down conditions the camera has to survive.
Whether the check is standalone or needs to run inside a larger, integrated system.
Capture a full 2D frame per trigger — the default choice for static or indexed parts, covering general inspection, measurement, and code reading.
Build a continuous image one line at a time, synchronized to material motion — the right fit for webs, rolls, and continuously moving surfaces.
Combine sensor, processor, and decision logic in one self-contained unit — suited to a single standalone inspection task without a separate PC.
Higher pixel counts for resolving very fine detail across a wide field of view, at the cost of frame rate and a heavier data and processing load. Available within either the area scan or line scan family depending on the application.
Several synchronized cameras covering different angles or features of a part in a single inspection cycle, coordinated by a shared vision controller.
