The lens technologies we deploy — selected according to inspection complexity, production speed, accuracy requirement, environmental conditions, and automation needs, not whatever lens happens to ship with the camera.
For optics specifically, that means the lens is chosen before a single pixel is processed — it sets the field of view, the working distance, and how faithfully a measurement in pixels converts back to a real dimension. A high-resolution sensor behind the wrong lens still produces a soft, distorted, or wrongly framed image, which is why lens selection gets the same attention as the camera itself.
How much of the part needs to be in frame, and at what level of detail.
Aperture and light throughput needed to keep exposure short at line rate.
How much distortion and perspective error the measurement can tolerate.
Housing, sealing, and thermal stability the optics need to hold calibration.
Whether remote or motorized focus and zoom are needed for part variants.

Standard fixed focal length lenses for general inspection — the default optical choice, matched to field of view and working distance.
Close-focusing optics for very small parts and fine detail at short working distances.
Optical designs corrected to keep straight lines straight and dimensions accurate near the edges of the frame — used wherever the image itself feeds a measurement.
Reserved for applications where perspective error would otherwise mask a real dimensional variation — at the cost of a narrower field of view and higher unit cost.
Polarizing, bandpass, and IR-cut filters, extension tubes, and protective windows, added to fine-tune contrast or protect the lens in harsh environments.
